The Philippine financial system’s total resources reached a record ₱38.56 trillion in August 2026, reflecting continued growth in banking assets, according to data from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
The figure was 11.1 percent higher than the ₱34.69 trillion recorded in August 2025 and 1.2 percent above July’s ₱38.09 trillion. Banks accounted for ₱32.17 trillion of the total, representing a 12.5-percent annual increase.
Universal and commercial banks held ₱29.78 trillion in resources, while thrift banks recorded ₱1.54 trillion. Digital banks expanded particularly rapidly, with resources increasing 51.1 percent to ₱225.2 billion. Rural and cooperative banks also posted strong growth, reaching ₱623.9 billion.
The figures indicate an expanding financial sector, with implications for credit availability, savings and financial inclusion. However, rising assets do not automatically mean households and businesses can obtain cheaper loans. Lending conditions, interest rates and credit risks remain important factors in determining how financial-sector growth benefits the wider economy.
