Filipina tennis star Alexandra Eala advanced to the Round of 16 at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo on Monday after defeating Britain’s Mika Stojsavljevic, 6-1, 6-2, in just 75 minutes.
The eighth-seeded Eala established control early, racing to a 5-0 lead in the opening set before closing it out. Stojsavljevic showed greater resistance in the second, but the Filipina won the final three games to complete the straight-sets victory.
Despite hitting eight winners against Stojsavljevic’s 24, Eala was more consistent, committing only 11 unforced errors compared with her opponent’s 41. The 17-year-old Briton entered the match ranked No. 411 in the world.
“I think it was super important today to be focused on every single point,” Eala said after the match, emphasizing the need to maintain her intensity in the opening round.
Eala will next face Australia’s Talia Gibson, the world No. 38, who defeated Daria Kasatkina, 6-0, 7-5, earlier Monday. The matchup will determine which player advances to the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 tournament.
